Korean Ginseng Drink
Korean Ginseng Drink with Honey
Cost: $2 4.23 oz
Active ingredients: Ginseng
Rating: 2 out of 10
This was an odd drink that I hadn’t seen before. So I picked up this odd drink that actually has a Ginseng root in the bottle, yeah you heard me the root is in the bottle. Anyways the root was kind of scary; it looked like the bug they placed in Neo in the first Matrix movie. Anyways, once you get past the oddness and the scariness of the root, you find an energy drink. This energy drink was very different than others, first it has no Caffeine, Taurine, or Guarana. This drink only had Ginseng and honey and water… that’s it. So does this simple set of ingredients work out? No not really unfortunately, ginseng just isn’t that powerful, pretty much every other energy drink gives you better energy than this drink. The taste is bitter and dirt like, it kind of tastes like a bad tea, bad unsweetened tea. If you like dirt like tastes (strong coffees and strong teas) then maybe give this drink a shot, but more than likely you will find either tea or coffee to give you more energy. I didn’t even try mixing this one with alcohol, because it was pretty obvious it would not do well. So overall I didn’t like this drink. It was a dirty bitter taste with little that was redeeming qualities in any way.

Posted by Dan at December 15, 2005 03:34 PMI saw this drink in a coworkers office the other day. He told me some strange korean guy had given it to him. He offered it to me, and me being a sucker for trying out weird new foods and drinks I accepted. Damn this thing was NASTY!! It tasted like sugered dirt water mixed with a dash of turd. I could'nt get the taste out of my mouth. I tried to wash the taste out, but it just would not go away. It does wake you up though, but maybe it was just that tingly vomit feeling that was keeping me awake.
Posted by: Leborg Bostle at February 7, 2006 01:06 PMId rather it taste like dirt than taste like chemicals. Chems bring you down, hard...
Posted by: MrMagoo at February 12, 2006 03:07 PMThere are actually some pretty fierce drinks in Japan and Korea. They have ones with nicoteine and efederine and a bunch of other stuff that I am not sure how to translate.
Theres not too many places to get them, but this one place has a few.

That nasty taste you guys refer to is the actual taste of ginseng. The reason this drink tastes so strong is because you get a MASSIVE dose of ginseng compred to other energy drinks. The root is in the bottle so that you are sure that you get a quality ammount of the herb. As you noted ginseng isn't that strong of an energizer, and this drink isn't meant to be the same thing as Red Bull. Ginseng is sexual enhanser, and it is exceptional at enrgizing your penis, but don't expect a whole lot else.
Posted by: Xyph at March 16, 2006 11:48 AMI gave ginseng gum once as part of Christmas presents to my family and friends back home. It really does taste like dirt. Minus the grainy bits.
Posted by: at March 19, 2006 06:18 PMginseng is not something you eat/drink for the taste. you eat it because it's good for your body. most good things in life are not sweetened with sugar. they aren't soothing to the westerner's tongue. old asian dudes love ginseng.

I just look forward to drinking Korean Ginseng Drink with Honey everyday. They are expensive on the web but can be found as little as 80 cents at Oriental Stores in major Cities. I can't imagine why any one would want to mix Ginseng with alcohol. I suppose coffee tastes good with alcohol ??. Coffee is addictive, ginseg is not. Coffee makes you hypher, Ginseng does not. Ginseng gives me errections. Coffee ???. ( Keeps me awake maybe ). Ginseng will remove the fat on your waistline that you acculmulated from all the sugar & milk in the coffee. Ginseng provides speedy recovery for bodybuilders after a workout.
And finally Ginseng is for those who are serious about staying fit & healthy. Its not for couch potatoes who want to have it with thier chips & alcohol.
Posted by: Kartheg Manickavasagam at March 22, 2006 05:36 PMI have been eating the root. do you think this is a healthy thing for my body and mind?
Posted by: donald at March 24, 2006 07:09 PMHmm. I was thinking about eating the root as well... I just drank my first 4.23 oz. bottle that I got from the corner shop a few days ago, and I decided to read up a bit on it before drinking it. It was good. But I won't eat the root until someone else posts and gives advice.
Posted by: Mike R. at April 8, 2006 09:56 PMThe korean ginseng drink isnt considered a actual "energy drink". Ginseng does not provide immediate results of energy, instead it boost your stamina, intellect, fitness, and overall quality of life. It is considered a actuall medicine in the oriental countries( not recognized by the food companies)
The ginseng found in these store bought products are actually not as pure as the larger roots that have been growing in mountains for decades. The ginseng in the store drinks are cheap, ( real roots can be sold for prices higher than 250,000! [depending on the root] )
Ginseng does not make you crash or shake when you drink ( or eat ) a gallon of it. And if you think that Monster,Rockstar,or Redbull has alot of ginseng you are wrong.
And it is fine to eat the root if not better.
Ginseng like everyone else is saying does taste like dirt. But this drink AND the root keeps women happy, if you know what i mean. Try the root, after all, its not for EVERYONE. It does enhance the erections and it makes it stay a while longer.
Posted by: dwane at July 15, 2006 07:21 PMdrinking or eating ginseng is not for everybody. although it's good for your health, it's more fit for people with lower or normal body temperature. People with higher body temp. or have feaver often shouldn't drink or eat ginseng. for those people, try red ginseng. red ginseng is safe for everybody and it's good for your health.
Posted by: Annabelle B. at August 14, 2006 11:50 PMI just had a WONBI-D 3.4oz Ginseng drink from the Korean Mfg of Mylanta & I loved it!!
It tastes a little different but it left my mouth tingly. I got it a doughnut shop of all places. I would like to buy a case of it and drink one every day if I could.
I don't think it tastes like dirt. I thought the drink tasted good with the light actual flavor of ginseng. A lot of Asian foods taste very good, but have an acquired taste that many westerners aren't used to. The same is the other way around too - my mom can't stand western food. :)
Posted by: Lynda Jao at October 23, 2006 11:16 AMHAHA yea I know I hate it!! I was like "sweet a new energy drink"....it fricking like is bitter and dirt like mixed with some ass....=nasty crap....anyway C-ya

drink half a bottle, make love, drink the other half, make love, eat the root and no sleep after all :) honestly tho, try it on your weekends. you don't want your boss concerned about you falling asleep after your lunchbreak. keep a bottle on hand at all times :)
Posted by: S&D at January 1, 2007 10:03 PMi love the drink, it clears the mental state. I find with my personal experience, it 'centres' me nicely with a heightened sense of well being.
I don't think the feeling is cosmetic like chemical drinks, it actually made me feel like it was healthy, afterall edible ginseng is an old asian preparation, you can't fault the test of time.
Good luck to all who try it,
P.S I never ate the root, perhaps i will try it next time.
pps: remove the nospam. to email me. cheers :)
Posted by: mitchy at March 9, 2007 01:13 AMThe Ginseng root is perfectly safe to eat, so long as you purchased the drink from a reputable retailer. The root is still a plant, and plants can build fungus once expired. So long as the drink hasn't expired, there's nothing wrong with drinking the ginseng and eating the root. It tastes a little dirty, but suck it up. That's what the honey is thrown in the water for. To sweeten it up. The ginseng won't wake you like Monster, and those other energy drinks, but the ginseng certainly has health benefits while the other drinks don't. Ginseng will also get your 'member' to throb in ways the caffeine energy drinks won't. Guys, if you want the real stamina, you MUST eat the root. It's not that bad at all... mind over matter. Eat the root.

I agree. Unless we're speaking of 2 separate Korean ginseng root in Honey and water drinks, it had zero "dirt" and "bitter" taste. Served cold it keeps its lasting light and sweet flavor, not heavy like one would assume to accompany honey. The only "dirt" and "bitter" taste was in the root but that's expected.

Posted by: susanna at July 27, 2007 01:46 AMI just drank my first 4 oz. and thought it was great! I must have gotten a different bottle because i found it to have a nice sweet essence to slightly earthy base. The root wasn't bad either. Granted it was slightly bitter, it was very moist ans soft from being in the drink and also had a sweetness to it.
It was much like a carrot, but with an herbal touch to it.
I feel more awake than I was 10 minutes ago, but I JUST drank it a few minutes ago, so I'll see what happens with time.
So far I give it an 8/10

Interesting article!
Thanks
This is personal testimony. I am a person with high metabolism who eats... 1000 calories per meal, 5 meals a day, and work out 3 times a week. I'm an average fit, the early twenties. What I have found consuming ginseng was that it boosted my crave for food even more! I recently bought a 80% pure extract from korea which was worth couple hundred bucks. It was supposed to increase my memory and keep my circulation well. I'm not too too sure about memory and circulation, but im pretty damn sure about craving for food. I can eat dbl big xtra with cheese and bacon square meal every 2 hours, with the ginseng taken 1-3 times a day. its incredible! for those, who wants to gain weight or workout to get massive muscles...this is a must!
