Chaser 5 hour Energy Berry Flavor

Chaser 5 hour Energy
Cost: $? 2 oz
Active ingredients: Taurine, L-Tyrosine, Malic Acid, L-Phenylalanine, N-Acetyl, Caffeine, B6, B12
Rating: 6.75 out of 10

Well it doesn't taste very good, but with a compact bottle and big energy claims, you would have to expect that with no real water or calories it is just all the energy ingredients mixed together. It does go down quickly while cold, I wish they had a wide mouth bottle so you could chug the nasty flavor down a bit quicker, but oh well. As for energy it does pack a punch. I drank this drink early in the day and still couldn't get to sleep until way late. I mean I was still running hard well past the 5 hour mark, perhaps it should be called 8 hour energy. So if you want a big kick, in a little portable bottle with a nasty taste this stuff works. It really does. I wouldn't really use this all the time, but with hardly any calories (15), and no sugar it gives you a big pump up with no crash it just keeps you feeling awake and aware with out crashing you back down hard later. So I say this is great for studying, long car trips, or days at the office that you just can't wake up. This little drink had a big surprise for me, it work as claimed if not better.

Dan, looks better without the moving images on top. My only other comment would be to shrink the text on the right side of the page so you don't have to scroll over to see the rest of the drink name.

I'm sure you've seen this but I just found it and thought it was effing cool:

Fact Expert
Dan "energy" Man - This has got to be THE definitive site on energy drinks. Dan's pushed himself to personally review well over 100 different brands of drink including one that he calls a "mistake gone horribly wrong". No wonder Yahoo features his site as a "best of" site.

As Dan said, the flavor isn't very good but it does give you a major energy boost.

They improved the flavor recently and it's great.

Hmm,

Suprised you didn't mention the Prickly - Itchy Feeling. I feel like I want to scratch everywhere, but being at work, I limited myself to my scalp, ears and arms.

From the website, looks like its to be expected.

I have a job where I need a good amount of energy for about 5 hours so I thought this would be perfect. I bought about 30 of these so I could drink one every day. The few days of taking this, I would provide huge amounts of energy for several hours, and my heart would pump so fast that if felt like it would have a heart attack.

Now I'm on my 5th week, and this I still take one everyday, but it barely works anymore. Hardly any energy increase and no high heartrate or anything. After about an hour of drinking it the other day, I could have fallen asleep if I would have laid down.

So my experience with it is that my body somehow became used to it and now it no longer works...

I tried 5 hour yesterday morning. I'm a truck driver and my body wants a nap about 6 am. My shift starts sometime after midnight.

I think the first thing to wake me up was the price. Then the taste. It does work better than walking around the truck and lasts longer.

I don't plan to take it every day. One side benefit was I didn't snack while I was driving. Maybe I can lose some of this weight I found driving. It seemed to wear off about noon and I had no trouble sleeping. The important thing is to get the sleep you need and use this as a supplement to get you going. Maybe they should call this Monday morning energy.

I'm going to recommend it to friends and family.
Has anyone tried it cold?

Posted by: Lula Porter at September 23, 2006 09:09 AM

I love this stuff. The flavor seems to have improved, but it could be that I got used to the cough medicine flavor. No jitters, just clear thinking, exactly what I need most of the time. Watch out for crash on weekends. I try to avoid this item on weekends to maintain sensitivity. I need LOTS of sleep on weekends but I would anyway.

I work as a trucker from 5PM to about 6AM on a very regular route. I need no crash so I can drive these long and upside down hours and then sleep soon after work during the day. I have done more than 2 months of use of this product on M-F basis. I have experienced the itching mentioned by another review but may have to attribute it to the load that I work with daily. I climb over and through my load of fresh particle boards and formica rolls. Lots of mosquitos have made a meal from me too at one of my stops.

I sip this drink as needed only. I need very little on Monday, use more each day until Friday I am using 3 bottles a night. I get home and make breakfast for myself and my family(on 1st shift) then I hit the sack. I have a problem about 3-5AM trying to keep very awake. This is when I can take as much as a whole bottle. Once the dawn begins to be visible, I am fine. I take a 1/2 hour break about midnite and I take 15 minute breaks occasionally at rest stops available to me.

I monitor my blood pressure and find it is doing fine at 125/75 at the store monitors, which does not reflect full rest. I am also exercising heartily daily. When I did more of the Monster drinks my BP was 10 points higher. I liked their flavor better, like Mountain Dew. Carbonated with sugar is BAD for my teeth and BP. I prefer healthier items.

Thanks for the website. I will review the products here for complimentary items to reduce my dependence on this one item.

This is the strongest I have tried. Gave me a rush after about 15 minutes, my face actually flushed. This is a supplement, should be treated as such. Not a regular energy drink, probably best after a meal. I'd say do NOT take any other caffine intake near the same time.

Posted by: Brian at October 28, 2006 10:53 AM

I tried this stuff today and was sorely disappointed. I was tingly for about 5 minutes after drinking it and then it just made me feel gaggy for half an hour. No energy rush, no boost... I am going to stick with my 7-8 shots of espresso in a day or the No Fear Gold, which is my absolute favorite.
Love the site, btw. :)

I have mixed reviews about this. It actually scared me when I first took the shot. My face felt like it was on fire and stomach felt horrible. It took about 30 minutes or so for my face to NOT be red. I think it gives you a good amount of energy, but I dont know if it's worth the itchy rashes it gives you.

Posted by: DJ Miller at November 22, 2006 07:27 AM

Yeah, this stuff scared the shit out of me when I first tried it (about 30 minutes ago) ...my face is still bright red and I have hives. Crazy. We'll see how it works for the day.

Posted by: Dread Pirate Kurt at December 30, 2006 09:04 AM

I have tried this drink for two days now. I bought a six-pack for $16.95 at GNC. I have to say that I got absolutely, positively no result at all!!! I got no effect either immediately or within the next five hours. It was like I was drinking brown water...EXPENSIVE brown water. I had to go drink some coffee to get motivated to finish the workout...this was a terrible waste o f money.

Posted by: Jimmy at January 23, 2007 07:41 AM

A co-worker of mine suggested this stuff. I thought it was a little pricey but what the hay if it works. Unlike some of the above comments, this worked extremely well for me. The trick to this is not to become dependant on this stuff and only consume two to three days a week. Anything more than that and your body seems to build a resistance to it. Also several days in a row without proper sleep it is almost impossible to stay awake.

The red flush is from the B6, also known as niacin. My doctor told me to take that particular supplement before (it is good for lowering triglycerides as well as increasing energy). The flush is perfectly normal and harmless, except for the gross feeling it gives. It is just the bodies reaction to excess vitamins and the flush, with regular use, will eventually start to dull down.

Hey I used this energy drink for the first time today, and I loved it. I play hockey, and we had a big game so I thought I'd give it a try. I did not experience the itching or flushing, but after about 10 minutes, I felt really alert and hyper. I went on to have one of the best games of my life. I wish I knew if it's NCAA approved... I looked at the NCAA list, and I didn't see any of the 5-hour ingredients on it, so I think it's okay. But yeah I'm still in high school so it doesn't really matter but I'd like to know if I will be allowed to use it next year.

From an athlete's point of view, I'd say this should be used only on very important game days or maybe tryout days... I think you could become pretty immune to it if you use it a lot, and there's always a risk with energy drinks and athletes that you could cause too rapid of a heartbeat. But I didn't feel like my chest was pounding or anything, the heartbeat wasn't too fast, and I even had a ton of adrenaline in my system just because it was game day...but then again my heart's really healthy, obviously since I play hockey.

Does anybody know if this is NCAA approved?

Posted by: Brittany at February 10, 2007 03:09 PM

I used it once or twice before pre-season baseball workouts and it works great. Im a pitcher so i have to do alot of cardio and this stuff gave me a buzz that lasted way beyond the workouts. And i didnt have any side effects.

Posted by: Paul McMannis at February 21, 2007 09:18 AM

this drink is odd. you feel alright at first, then your heart starts to beat like crazy to the point you cannot sleep... I took this at 930pm and its now 5am and i cannot sleep at all. I have a dull pressure on my chest. I will never drink this ever again, but if YOU decide to try this liquid speed, i say go half bottle...dont be a idiot and try to drink the whole thing.

Okay, so, i'm 15 years old and I think I have narcolepsy or the oppisite or whatever...I'll wake up a million times in the night, read my alarm clock as what time i'm supposed to wake up (For instance, this morning it was 1 or something and I SAW THE NUMBERS 5:30) and then i'll get ready and wake up and stuff...eventually i'll just go back to sleep, but during the day i'm totally exaughsted...
I need energy to work out at night, too, to hopefully help my sleeping problems.

Anyway, the point of my story is that i have heard 199 billion great things about this drink...I'm hoping that it helps regulate my body and fix me (hehe).
so.
i'll put in my two cents tomarrow night, and then in a month or so.

Posted by: Kathryn at March 10, 2007 07:27 PM

Okay, so, first day on it...
Took 1/2 at 4:00 AM, took the second half at 5:00 AM, didnt get jitter or anything-great engergy until about 10ish. Only problem was, i kept giggling...Do they put a happy drug in it?
I then had another half at 11, was going strong until 2, then I crashed. horribly. they lied-or maybe just cuz work was BUSY! But then I had half of one after dinner and worked out. I feel pretty good now.
Another bad thing was during my crash thing, I was trying to take a nap, and I couldnt because my blood was pounding in my viens. Not really my heart, but I could feel where all the vessels were..hmm.
Hope it helps the sleeping problem.

I take this drink every say but just one bottle. It has worked great. I notice that I drink alot more water with this energy drink. I never drank water before. I also would take vitamin b12 for energy and never got the results I do with this drink. Love it. and have been drinking it for about a month and a half and have the same feeling now then I did when I first tried it. I have energy all day.

My boyfriend's father introduced us to this stuff. We recently moved in together and have become hella lazy. So, he gave it to us w/ the assumption that it would get us working out again. We TOTALLY use it right before we go to the club. We mix it w/ White Zinfandel and drink it while we get ready. By the time the hot flash hits (which is not everytime w/ take it) we're usually walking out of the door, we get in the car, crank the AC and by the time we're at the spot, hot flash is gone and we're ready to party. We know it works b/c anytime we go out and don't take it, we're pooped when we come home, but when we do take it, we go out to eat after the club and come home and watch TV. This shit is absolutely fantastic. The trick is not to take it so often that your body builds a tolerance.

I tried this stuff for the first time today, and I think it works very well. I'm a Muay Thai kickboxer, and took it before training today - I was very alert, focused, and overall my reflexes felt like they had more snap. I have a fight this weekend and will take this stuff about 30 min before my match. I think this stuff may have worked on me so well because I very rarely drink anything with sugar or caffeine in it and eat pretty healthy. Overall I give this stuff two thumbs up, much prefer it over other energy drinks like Red Bull and all its clones.

Posted by: Balaszi at April 12, 2007 06:00 PM

I tried the regular 5-hour berry drink. It worked very well. I didn't get a giant surge of energy but I did feel the effects and was wide awake quickly. The awakeness lasted for far more than 5 hours. I took it at 11AM and had a hard time falling asleep that evening. I have taken it a few more times first thing in the morning but I am leary now as I have experienced headaches and rapid heartbeat. I've never tried the Chaser 5-hour drink. It's supposed to be more potent. They don't have it in any store I looked in. Only place I saw it for a GREAT bargin price was on Ebay. I also read a review on another site that the B12 and Niacin content can make you test false positive on job drug tests because these are known substances for masking drug use. I'm not attesting to that, just passing on what I read.

My boss and I took the 5 hour energy drink today, and it has got to be the worst energy drink ever! Not only is the taste disgusting, but they failed to mention the "other" side effects associated with the drink. *(Mind you that we both took the complete bottle at once) My boss got sick to her stomach, she felt "jittery and antsy", and began to have a terrible headache. As for me, I also got a headache, had an up-and-down effect for about an hour, and my vision became real blurry for a while. I've had evergy drinks before, but none ever affected me like this. Needless to say I won't be using this product again. I'm still waiting on the "energy" factor hours later. Other than feeling bad, my energy level pretty much is the same. It may have worked for others, but it definitely didn't work for us...and we're in physical therapy!

i took this for the 1st time today...Don't know if it was the switch from red bull yesterday or my body isn't agreeing with the 5 hour...I got a really bad stomach ache and had bad diarrea ...Don't know if its this stuff or me???Does anyone know about the drug interactions if there are any???I take methadone can it affect me????

I took 5 hour energy and in about 15 min i started breaking out into hives. it looked like it has something to do with my joints because it started on my knees elbows knuckels and neck.

I took this for the first time about 20 minutes ago, because I have to work a 12 hour day on about 5 hours sleep & I have been dragging all morning. So far - this is great! I drank about 3/4 of a bottle (tastes awful) & I am awake, but no flush, no buzz & no shakiness. Hope it holds out. I have another 6 hours to work!

I tried this Berry Shot of Magical Doom yesterday and today. I work in a hospital taking calls and processing information, getting that information placed upon 4-5 sources, and multiple persons. Usually, on a normal day, i would be punching walls and kicking chairs around at the annoyance of "lack of drive/ignorant to information" nurses/doctors, and constant situational drama from my own co-workers.... Often to come home exhausted, smoke a blunt, goto sleep, rinse lather repeat..... I took this and.....magic....that's all i can say. No wall punching, minimal to no anger, I single handedly revamped a new software system that was implemented yesterday, fixed it on a super solo mission amidst my other daunting tasks, walked home, lol. I couldn't believe how much of a special "drug" this is considering it has vitamins i don't get, energy i never have, and if i drink enough of it, i may be able to pass a drug test :ž hahahaha!!!! it's every "bhuuda head's" dream in a mini bottle of hope. But don't get me wrong....that's me....you are you. Everyone reacts to everything in life differently, as to be expected by this product and the reviews given. Body Type/Diet/Proportions/Activity (or lack of) all play a major role in the determination of how you react to something. For those of you lacking a response from this product....most likely you chug energy drinks and coffee/expresso consistently to the point where you are immune to energy...period...lol, and those of you feeling flush and overdosingly overactive most commonly are lighter/smaller in size/weight and rarely ever utilize a substaintial caffinated product. It all factors in, just lettin yall know it works for me well. Best of luck to all of yall that try it :)

I am a big fan of monster energy drink as i play counter strike source competitivly it is 1 of the popular drinks next to bawls in the community. My cousin recommended me to try this drink. Almost 90% of the time i try a energy drink i check here first but i was at 7 11 so i decided to get it anyway. Right now i am at work (accounting, VERY boring job) its been about an hour since i drank it and i am pretty energetic right now (being a big person doesnt happen to often lol). I am definitly going to drink this before a game or bowling match, it works.

I just had my first experience with the 5 hour drink... I liked it. I was happy to find something that wasn't full of junk.

I just wanted to sound in about the flushing, burning and itching that others were experiencing... Asprin will help to stop that from happening... I have a condition that requires me to take a high dose of Niacin which causes the flushing and itching. It was aweful for me until recently Dr's have found out that Asprin relieves the side affect. Maybe it will work for them too...

I had been wanting to try 5 hr energy ever since the first time I saw it advertised. I am allergic to ephedrine and have always been leery about energy pills, with and without ephedrine. Also, I am trying to lose a little weight and because of the all sugar in energy drinks it seems impossible to get the weight off. I finally tried 5 hr energy a couple of days ago and after the initial experience I decided to stock up by buying a weeks worth at a time, that way I always have it on hand. I love this stuff. It is the only pick me up that doesn't make me crazy after a few hours. I have also noticed that time seems to go by quicker after taking a shot. I can work longer instead of feeling like I need to go home and take a nap in the middle of the day. At night I can sleep just fine without that anxious feeling you get from the energy drinks and pills.
Anyway, you talk about the price being a little high but it's the same price as a large can of Red Bull and works much better, tastes better too. I give 5 hr energy a 10 on al levels compared to everything else out there at the moment.

Posted by: Julz at August 12, 2007 09:16 AM

I have taken the drink for the past three days. I would drink a full bottle every morning around 9:00AM. The first two days were great. I had tons of energy and was focused at work. However, when I took it this morning my stomach hurt so bad and I seriously thought I was going to pass out. My heart felt like it was trying to leap out of my chest - it was racing so fast and hard. My hands were jittery and I could barely walk (I felt like I would fall due to dizziness). These symptoms went away after 30 minutes. Now, I am just really tired. I am completely exhausted and am having great difficulty keeping my eyes open. I think it is a great drink, but not for every day consumption. I would recommend drinking it a couple of times a week, but no more than that. I would definitely still use it.

Also, I have noticed an increase in my water intake (makes me thirsty), which is not a bad side effect.

Posted by: DeCy at August 15, 2007 10:05 AM

This is the best thing that has com out yet! And regardless of the NAySAYERS out here it really works. Me and my wife have been taking it every morning a bottle each and it is amazing how it has helped us, as far as price we order it at a online store and buy it at $20.00 per 12 bottles that is only $1.66 each less than a can energy drink. As far as taste I have to agree with the others it is nasty, we buy the lemon lime and mix it with about 8oz of Orange juice in the mornings and it taste great.

Posted by: Alan at August 18, 2007 11:58 AM

I really want to try 5 hour energy drink, but since so many people have mentioned the side effects, I am a bit scared. I wanted to drink it reight before I have hockey practice which lasts a couple of hours. But if I take it and break out in hives or get a horrible stomache ache, I will be crushed. Since my coach is anything but nice, it would probably hurt my chances of joining the field hockey team.

Posted by: Kate at August 19, 2007 10:47 PM

I heard good and bad things about this energy shot so decided to try it out for myself.

A friend and I bought one each of the lemon lime flavor one which was pretty expensive. We both chugged the whole thing which tasted like sprite with a horrible aftertaste and a I expierienced a gag reaction.

She didn't notice a change but I did immediatly. After 30 minutes, she decided to grab two more, one for each of us again.
I didn't need it but she did and I thought, well what the heck. I might as well take the whole thing also.

This was not a very smart of us, but we didn't see any warnings not to take that much. About half an hour prior to that, we felt dizzy and strange, although it made me very awake and cautious. She continued to feel odd and we began feeling shakey inside.

10 minutes after that, I had a terrible migrane and we both felt anxious, and didn't know why.

She hated the feeling it gave her and it made us sick. After that, I went home to take medicine to relive the headache it gave me, all of a sudden, my stomach started hurting and my mucles felt sore.

Overall, I think it works, but its not for everyone, because we honestly didn't feel right after taking them. Every energy drink has its side effects.. Or so I believe. So take them with caution.

Posted by: beth at August 21, 2007 02:01 AM

Clearly Beth doesn't know why she experienced bad side effects.
Let's see. I'm looking at the bottle and it says that first timers should try half a bottle first to see how it works.
You and your buddy drank 2 full bottles inside of an hour and are shocked, SHOCKED!, that you experience adverse side effects.
Sounds like caffeine overload to me....

Posted by: jeff at August 22, 2007 01:32 PM

So I decided to give this stuff a try. I bought 2 bottles yesterday for $5.49 at CVS, took it home and refrigerated it overnight.
I usually drink a Monster lo-carb in the morning, a Diet Coke with lunch, a cup of Earl Grey around 2 and a Diet Pepsi Max (good stuff) around 3:30/4.
I woke up after a decent 6 hour sleep night groggy and wanting to head back to bed. After showering and getting dressed, I grabbed the bottle of 5-hour energy and left for work. During the 10 minute drive in, I drank the whole bottle.
The taste: Sort of like a piece of berry flavored candy. Not too bad, although slightly resembling sweetened cough syrup. But hey, it's a 2 ounce drink - you aren't supposed to savor the flavor, right?
I just got to work and already, my mind is awake and aware. I am starting to feel 'pumped up' and haven't experienced any niacin flush or stomach aches (i did take this on an empty stomach).
So far, so good. I'll post again this afternoon to finish up the review. No more caffeinated beverages until the afternoon for me, as I want to see if this is really effective and what I go through.

Man... your right the 5 hour energy shot tastes Really Really BAD... I really almost up chucked the couple times i used it. I didnt really feel anything from it. I found this product called 8 hour energy pills... in the gas station next to the 5 hour. It is a pill so I dont have a problem with the nasty taste :). I get about 10 hours of energy out of the 8 hour energy pills. Maybe they should market it as buy (1) 8 hour energy pill and get an extra 2 hours Free... because it works for 10 hours for me. Pretty cool stuff :).

Posted by: Jason at August 23, 2007 05:13 PM

Okay, people seeding from the company here, your messages smell like their branding, please at least try and make it come across as an actual person. Some of these reviews are right out of marketing....:P

Anyhoo, personally I find it works well, but no serious rush or anything. You still may yawn and feel tired, but it comes and goes as opposed to revved which you don't want anyways. Jittery never got work done either. ;)

Overall it's okay, but NOT quite worth the price. $3 bit steep for fowl tasting liquid.

Posted by: Robert at August 30, 2007 08:36 AM

i drank it yesterday at about 4-5ish in the afternoon because i was tired and i had to help my father clean, the stuff worked great i had all the energy i needed and some, but i had school the next day and i couldnt get to sleep, i just layed there,i couldnt even yawn i think i fell asleep at around 4 because i looked at the clock at 3:30 and thats the last thing i really remember. then i woke up at 6 i was still wide awake even though i only had about 2 hours of sleep if that. i ended up going home after school and taking 2 advil PM's and passing out.

BOTTOM LINE:
stuff works great, not so sure if i recomend taking it mid day if you have to get up early

I drank not even a full can of NOS and not long after my palms started to itch. Then in no time hives broke out and spread all over my body. I have been taking benedryl now for 3 days and I still have hives. I will never drink NOS again or any enery drink. This suck, and the itching is horrible!

I found this energy drink to be great, works fine and keeps me motivated to not only get through my long school day, but also to have enough energy for work and to go to the gym.

Only problem I had at all was that I found the need to urinate...Alot. Once every 15 minutes or so for an hour after I took the drink.

Great drink, but the whole bathroom thing gets VERY annoying after the first few times.

First time trying this today - gave me a solid wake up right off the bat, but later I found that I had a headache; not sure if it was related. I would say I prefer the energy drinks, Monster in particular because they now offer ones with Fruit Juice in them to supplement the Corn Syrup, Fructose, etc. In addition, I like the buzz they give me!

Does anyone know if 5 hour energy has a drug interaction with anti depressants? Because I'm currently on Effexor XR, and after taking this drink around 2 in the afternoon, I actually feel more tired. I also didn't eat much as far as a meal goes. So, does this mean that it interacted with the Effexor, or is it because I didn't have a meal with drinking it? Input from anyone would be nice. Thx.

I'm a postal carrier andI have tried the 5 hour energy drink and it works for me! I have noticed if I take it 1/2 hour before I start my work day at the post office, not only do I pick up speed but accuracy and I can focus much more better also. Yes, I would have to say that I feel we do need the vitamins in the bottle.. we tend to lack then in some ways!

My mother and a few of her friends where telling me about the 5 hour drink. They said it works well.

I'm tired all the time. I have Chronic fatigue syndrome. I thought I'd try this before trying stuff
like B12 shots. This has B12 in it.

I drank half a bottle last night in the early evening and the rest when I woke up to test this product.

The only thing that feels full of energy is my ankles. I find that to be a bad thing. That would be classified as restless leg syndrome. :(
If the rest of me felt the way my ankles do I would be very happy. But being I don't really feel
like moving and just my ankles does. It will just
become a problem. I still feel just as tired. Now I have bothersome legs, thats going to last 5 hours. :(

I just took this 5 hour energy drink and it actually does what it claims. I'm 40 yo and have been one of those people who can sleep anytime anywhere, so if this drink holds true the GREAT! Reading some of the entries about the different effects, I wonder just how accurate the dosing of the ingredients are (hit and miss) since the supplement industry isn't regulated so tightly.

I am a junior in college so I need a LOT of energy. i drank one every morning on and off for a couple months. I loove them, they start to have less of an effect but it's not that big of a problem. The bg problem is that I apparently have a big stomach ulcer, the doctor said taurine causes stomach ulcers so now i can't have any until I heal it. so don't take one every day cause i guess it could have a side effect. damn it
