Best Energy Drinks 2006, and predictions for 2007
I guess this is going to be the last big year of explosive energy drink growth and as many new flavors that you can find. I predict this is the year of the big energy drink consolidation. I mean the big players are all in now and already swallowing up the smaller ones... The new drinks on the market are sticking around for a shorter time or having a much higher initial investment as they enter the market. The time of every company having its own energy drink is coming to an end. Does this mean the end? No more fun and crazy new interesting flavors? No, it just means soon price wars will occur.
After we see the market level out a bit, to take a larger market share some of the larger drinks that can will lower their price which will in turn force competitors do the same, while the industry is enjoying the highest ever margins on energy drinks, it is bound that it will break down. So while I will miss the ever exciting times of trying new drinks all the time, which I will continue to do for as long as I can get my hands on them, I welcome the cheaper energy drinks, which will wake me each morning at a reasonable rate.
Now I really hope some of my small time favorites can keep carving a niche out for them selves because there is definitely room for that in today's long tail world as well.
The best energy drink of 2006 award goes to, Monster Khaos, for being the best and easiest to find of all of the Orange juice energy drinks, which started forcing other companies to really do something different than just make soda's with more caffeine.

Posted by: mary walsh at January 7, 2007 03:26 PMI am a total freak about energy drinks, and it is my total criteria, I live my live revolving around the drinks. I have to say that the best energy drink for 2006 would have to be by far MONSTER!!! No matter what! They always have impressed me! I swear that they are the best! I am soooo into them!
For 2007, so far I think it goes to Coca-Cola's Newest addition to the Full Throttle Family. The FULL THROTTLE: BLUE DEMON!
Agave Flavor! (Cactus juice) WHAT AN INGENIOUS IDEA! That is the new flavor, I think that they are to first to make an energy drink with cactus juice in it as it's flavor!!!
I think it is kicking ass right now! It tastes great! i love it!

First of all, Full Throttle is a sh*t drink to begin with.

Posted by: Emeka Nnamani at January 30, 2007 01:11 AMIf you want a REAL , PREMIUM , energy drink you need to try BING. It 100% real Bing cherries and is the only one on the market that does not look and taste like urine. Only one problem: Right now you have to be in Colorado or Michigan to enjoy the flavor! Check out the website: www.getbinged.com
Watch out as you will soon be BINGED!!! Great with many types of Vodka and Tuaca!! New shot to be discovered: " Pop your Cherry" ??
Posted by: ADRENELINE JUNKIE at January 31, 2007 10:39 PMI have tested and tried over 70 Energy Drinks in the last 5 years starting with Red Bull. Most of them taste terrible and have ingredients that I would not want anybody I care about to consume. However many of them have what we crave CAFFINE!! (They also tend to be loaded with High Fructose Corn Syrup and tons of calories.)
If you pour most Energy Drinks into a glass and compare them you will see that most of them look like something between antifreeze and urine. Not very pleasing to the eye and smell them you will probably wrinkle your nose and try not to loose your lunch. I have surveyed hundreds of people in doing some research in this area and those that drink Energy Drinks typically think that they don't taste very good and are not very good for you.
I have only found one Energy Drink that actually tastes good - Bing Energy. It has such a unique taste profile that it actually enhances the taste of foods when you consume it during a meal. It also is the most versitile mixer that I have seen. My favorite is the "Bada Bing" a Tuaca and Bing shot.
The color is a beautiful red color with very pleasing aroma. It has just 10g of sugar, 10g of carbs and the Taurine / Caffine ratio of Red Bull. It has 5 essential B vitamins (most only had 2 or 3) and is very high in antioxidents. It is relatively new so you might have trouble finding it on the shelf (unless you live in Colorado) but they seem to be gaining in popularity. In my oppinion they are going to be the next "Big" thing.
Posted by: Dr. Energy at February 14, 2007 12:04 AMI am a professional Mixologist and I tried the Bing Energy to see if it was as good as they say.
Honestly, I was blown away by Bing’s ability to complement cocktails. Instead of drowning out the exciting subtlety of base spirits, this drink added a much welcomed complexity.
When mixing drinks I left no stone unturned. I explored 72 different liquors and spirits, a collection of fruit ranging from apples to papaya, and a countless number of juice and soda mix-ins. From this sampling, I combined flavors that best suited the Bing Energy drink and mixed them accordingly. Everyone that tried them thought they were incredible. If you own a bar then I would recomend that you keep a case of Bing behind the bar cause it definately can add some variety to your drink menu.
Freek will be the next big thing. It's comes in 5 awsome flavors.Rage,Skitzo,Psycho,Maniac and Maniac sugar free. The cans look great with a skull face very bold. They taste just like a soda with more of a energy kick than Monster. This drink line will compete with Red Bull and Monster is on the way down with the switching of distributing to Bud. So everyone lets get your FREEK ON!!!!
Posted by: Scott at February 16, 2007 04:58 PMI combined Full Throttle to wake me up after taking a Benadryl for Sinuses (Severe). I am feeling so anxious and my head feels like its about to explode. Is this normal? I can't stand it.
