New Layout Redesign

We spent some time cleaning up the design and making the layout a bit simpler. We hope everyone likes the new design for Energy Drink Reviews. If you have any great energy drinks, I am currently a bit short on drinks to review so send them my way. Also, if you run an energy drink site let me know and we can trade links back and forth. I always think it is helpful to help link to other relevant and useful sites that energy drink readers might be interested in. If you have any ideas about things you would like to see on Energy Drink Reviews let me know as I would be interested in adding some new features to the site.

Anyways let me know of your thoughts of the new layout...

So many energy drinks on the market

There are so many energy drinks on the market. It is really hard to keep up with them all. In fact i think there are about as many energy drink companies going out of business as there are new drinks coming out on the market at any given time. Well here at Energy Drink Reviews, we have always had a hard time keeping up with everything, but it seems that lately it has been harder than ever and we have been failing behind. Well we are on a renewed focus and we are really going to try to get back to the top of our game.

So if you have a drink and you want it reviewed find the contact link on this site and send some drinks our way. We would love to find something new and interesting to review. I know there are exciting drinks coming out all the time, but right now we can't really get our hands on them.

Dan 'energy' Man is Back

I have been asked to come back as a reviewer on the site. It is still owned by the current owners, but you will see me helping out and posting some reviews and cleaning up the site a bit. So hopefully we can make some quick changes and keep this energy drink community cool. I am actually leaving on a quick vacation so you won't see anything from me for a little while, but I thought I would let people know that you can expect some more tasteless reviews that really get to the point, again. I will shame drinks that deserve to be shamed and give out praise where it is truly deserved... Lets get ready to get our collective energy drink buzz on.

Reasons to Cut Back on Corn Consumption - U.S. News & World Report

Corn ingredients, chiefly found in soft drinks, energy drinks, and juice drinks as high fructose corn syrup, can unwittingly add significant calories to consumers diets.
From the article:
One concern: All that corn, which is rich in sugars and calories, has to go somewhere, and we're guzzling far too much of it in the form of high-fructose corn syrup, an economical sweetener used in an array of processed foods and beverages. Per capita production of high-fructose corn syrup has increased some 4,000 percent since 1973, and the syrup now rivals sugar as America's most common sweetener. The average American now consumes a whopping 42 pounds of high-fructose corn syrup each year, according to U. S. Department of Agriculture data. That's an extra 75,281 calories per year—enough to a feed a typical person for 37 days. The bulk of that comes via soda, energy drinks, and juice drinks. From soft drinks alone, teens typically get 15 to 20 teaspoons per day of added sugars from high-fructose corn syrup—some 11 percent of their daily total caloric intake, according to a report from the Food Trust, a Philadelphia based nonprofit organization. Another study shows that soft drinks have replaced milk as a dietary staple and have become the third-most-common breakfast food...

Health Wrap: Energy Drinks, Caffeine & Alzheimer's - CBS 3

A well written article about why energy drinks should have the caffeine content labeled. I like that idea and support all the drinks being labeled. The one issue I will take with the article is that a cup of coffee contains about 100mg of caffeine, while that is true when your brew your own coffee, many Starbucks coffees have 270mg far more than the average energy drink so if you want people to be aware ALL CAFFEINE products need labels that includes all the coffees.

Completely wired, just like Woomera

From the article:
"No wonder Coca-Cola wants some of the buzz. The energy drink market is growing 20 per cent per year! That'd be the shiftworkers. And cabbies. And 19-year-olds who mix them with booze to party longer. And schoolkids who want to study through the night. No matter that the fine print warns that these drinks aren't fit for children. Young people increasingly seeking that energy-drink buzz

From the article:
Energy drinks such as Red Bull and Shark, packed with sugar, caffeine, and other stimulants, are swiftly conquering the Yemeni market, as young people clamor for a quick and easy buzz, and even nurture the illusion that the drinks will somehow increase their sexual prowess. “They are selling an illusion that it will raise the sexual performance level in men, and people believe it, said Prof. Abdul-Jabbar Radman, a sociology professor at Sana’a University. “Some people drink these energy drinks while chewing qat, and this leads that to moral deviations because the kids will look for ways to unload their power. “This leads to addiction, so if someone becomes addicted and then stops drinking, his body will be affected by weakness and the inability to work, Radman said...

Cott Losing Its Fizz

Well some energy drink companies are making wall street all giddy while others apparently can't really catch the wave. I guess I can't say that I am surprised as the big pay off is going to the big fish, and the little fish as just getting swallowed.

From the article:
Cott has also introduced energy drinks and non-carbonated beverages such as ready-to-drink teas, bottled water, and sports drinks, which are growing faster than its carbonated ones, and have higher margins. But, here, too, Cott faces a host of competitors, such as Lipton Iced Tea, sold in partnership with PepsiCo (NYSE: PEP), Gatorade (marketed by Quaker Oats, another division of PepsiCo), POWERade, made by Coca-Cola (NYSE: KO), and many others. So while it's expanding its product line, can Cott really keep up with the big boys?...

Is Hansen Natural a Takeover Target? - Seeking Alpha

It seems even though Hansen's has been growing by huge amounts in the last years it is becoming a likely buyout target. It makes some sense I guess, but I like having different companies.

Number one in energy drinks, and Hansen's biggest competitor, Red Bull, controls 42.6% of the market share for energy drinks. Energy drinks and Exercise

Another good article about the use of energy drinks and exercise, if your working out with energy drinks this is a perfect read for you. I know many people that claim an energy drink before lifting helps them to push themselves. I know if your going to be running a whole ton that sweating will require you to get a lot of water and non carbonated energy drinks may be a better friend, but this is a good overview.

From the article:
Many athletes turn to energy drinks to help them through their tough workouts. These are beverages that contain electrolytes, which are lost during exercise. We need electrolytes to maintain a healthy blood pressure level. They speed the uptake of fluid from your stomach to your muscles, keeping all systems go. For most of us, good old fashioned water works just fine, but if you work out for more than 90 minutes at a time or in the heat, you might need the added kick of an energy drink. Here's how to find the best one:...

Energy Drinks and Workouts

Working out with energy drinks?
I think this article has a good point about energy drinks and working out. I don't entirely agree as you can choose the less sugary energy drinks and also drink some water to help with dehydration. The point that many energy drinks aren't really made to use during a workout is good and well taken though.

From the article:
Despite the label claiming they're "energy drinks", products like Guru or Red Bull should be banned from your workout bag. High in caffeine, they actually dehydrate your body. Result: you'll quickly lose energy as your workout progresses, and that's not what you want when you hit the treadmill. Pass on carbonated, or sparkling water, too: they could upset your digestion...

Recipe for Disaster alcohol and energy drinks

I hate stupid reporters. This article has so many errors I don't know where to start.

"the excessive amount of sugar, ephedrine...", Energy drinks haven't had ephedrine for years, you know cause it is illegal.

"but now there`s a new trend to mix them with something that can also be hazardous - alcohol." Not a new trend this has been going on for about 5 years. Also you know what can be hazardous ANYTHING, seriously you probably want to take down all the monkey bars and coat the entire world in foam, because you once heard about a child scraping his knee. It is call personal accountability be safe with alcohol and with caffeine, you ever had a rum and coke? People have been drinking that for generations.

"Doctors are calling the practice a sort of legal speedballing." Yeah your Doctor is a nutjob two then when your comparing caffeine and booze to heroin and cocaine you know you have gone off the deep end.

"Some have as much as 80 milligrams per serving, and there are at least two servings in every bottle or can." Actually some have as much as 300mg, and many drinks only have one serving while some has two in a can. Have you had coffee? Starbucks coffee can contain 370mg of caffeine per cup, I bet you had coffee before writing your insultingly uninformed article.

"That`s four or five times the amount of caffeine in a cup of coffee." Not even close Redbull sitting at 80mg has 4.5 less caffeine than Starbucks.

Americans Get A Boost From High Energy Cocktails

Wow energy drinks are pulling in $3.2 billion a year, I apparently haven't been tapping into that enough, perhaps I should be giving talks at beverage conferences... hehe Anyways this report looks at the growing connection of energy drink companies marketing to the bar and drinking scene. I think this is just another late to the game article where the percentage of people using energy drinks with alcohol with only rise as the younger who have been using energy drinks for years reach drinking age. Now I don't think most kids have an issue with caffeine, but when it comes to any problems that might exist, caffeine is the culprit and that is where more studies, and more education needs to be focused. A storm of change at Coca-Cola Enterprises

Looks like Coca-Cola and Pepsi are a little worried about the growing health and energy drink markets, because they don't own them lock, stock, and barrel. Well I guess they are slowly gobbling up most of the big players. Anyways it is good to know that all this change it forcing these companies to think differently and perhaps make some new more exciting products in the market.

From the article:
Coke, like Pepsi, faces a far different market today from what it faced 10 years ago. A proliferation of water, teas, sports drinks, energy drinks and coffees has squeezed shelf and floor space in stores. Manufacturers more than ever have to manage the precious space they get...

Kids and energy drinks

Another better be scared because when I was little all we had was coca cola. Yes energy drinks can dehydrate a person, but that is why your supposed to drink water as well. I don't understand why energy drinks have to solve all problems to just be ok, kids drink pepsi which dehydrates them as well... Grrrr

From the article:
I caution parents when it comes to energy drinks. They contain caffeine, which can dehydrate a person and increase urination. During summertime, this is not what you want to happen, and I have heard a few cases of electrolyte imbalance from drinking too many energy drinks while participating in sporting contests...

Court rules in favor of Freek energy drink maker

Crazy apparently Hansen now being one of the big boys is trying to legally tie up some of the smaller companies... Does freak and monster really sound the same?

From the article:

The U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals on Friday reversed a preliminary injunction that had prevented National Beverage Corp. from selling its Freek energy drinks, dealing a blow to rival Hansen Natural Corp. of Corona.

The court said Hansen's popular Monster energy drinks were distinguishable from the Freek brand and others on the market, and therefore consumer confusion was unlikely...

Energy Drinks Make Jones Soda Pop

Looks like Jones soda just got a hold of a secret ingredient that it is hoping will take the energy market by storm. I haven't had any of this yet so who knows, but it is still a clear win for Jones soda.

From the article:
Tuesday that it had won the exclusive rights to use a natural anti-stress ingredient from Japan. Illegal immigrants given Red Bull energy drinks

In what might be the oddest energy drink story to come by my eyes, illegal immigrants might be taking red bull before making the run across the border. One problem this leads to is the most common death is related to dehydration, and redbull accelerates dehydration. In the hot dessert remember to bring a lot of water.

From the article:
" Illegal immigrants are being given Red Bull energy drinks and ephedrine to give them a boost as they scurry across the U.S. border, according to a radio report.

Smugglers are reportedly giving immigrants what is known as a triple stacker an ephedrine pill and aspirin, with a can of Red Bull to wash it all down, U.S. Border Patrol agents told WOAI news radio station in Texas."

Flavored Oxygen takes on Energy Drinks

From the how stupid can people get department, now your can get your energy boost in the form of flavored oxygen cans. This is complete bullshit, not for a second do I believe this would give you an energy boost, but prove me wrong send me some samples and I will give it an honest shot. Seriously though all I think of while reading press release is fight club, see all the happy calm people as the plane plummets, thats because OXYGEN GETS YOU HIGH. If it is 100% Oxygen the boost of energy you will get will be from getting high off oxygen and that brings a big old smile to my face.

From the article:

Are energy drinks bad for health?

A worried parents asks about the effects of red bull energy drink and gets a highly details response. Since we get alarmist articles about energy drinks so often at Energy Drink News, it is great to see a clear good response. Honestly I think this is on of the more correct and detailed answers to the question are energy drinks bad for your health. It wasn't written with an alarmist scare, but mostly an honest answer filled with facts, I highly recommend a quick read if you were ever concerned about your health and energy drinks.

From the article:
As for its physiologic effects, it is likely that the vast majority of the Red Bull stimulatory effect is due to the caffeine alone. There may or may not be an additional benefit attributed to the taurine and the glucuronolactone. Since Red Bull and a cup of coffee contain about the same amount of caffeine, the stimulatory effect of Red Bull may be due to the fact that Red Bull is served cold and can be consumed in a shorter period of time giving one a "blast" of caffeine that when wrapped in a Red Bull marketing program and a high price gives the consumer the sense that he has acquired more than an expensive cup of coffee...

Man Goes to Hospital After Taking Energy Drinks

Basically the title should be teen goes to hospital because he was an idiot and abusing caffeine. Now maybe I don't have all the facts straight but your not sleeping and drinking way to many energy drinks until you end up in the hospital that sounds like the persons fault not the product, tylenol is really deadly if you abuse it too.

Fine print: Alcohol labels on energy drinks beverages too tiny?

Some energy drinks that contain alcohol aren't exactly clearly labeled - the text about the alcohol is so small or hidden as to be barely noticeable. I'm glad they are pushing to force alcoholic energy drinks to be more obvious - it's pretty sleazy to try and trick consumers (or store clerks) into buying/selling a alcoholic drink without knowing it...

AG's Say Anheuser-Busch’s Alcohol Energy Drinks Pose Health Risk

So apparently if you think underage kids might like the look of a can you can get in trouble while promoting and selling an alcoholic drink to people over 21. This is insane, there are plenty of people over the age of 21 that like energy drinks and would like energy drink beers, now apparently that is bad because under age kids might want them also. What ever happened to freedom and responsibility?

From the article:
Following a collective initiative launched earlier this week to target underage drinking, Attorney General Bill McCollum has expressed his concern to Anheuser-Busch Companies, Inc. about its production and promotion of alcohol energy drinks containing caffeine and other stimulants. Citing serious health concerns, Attorney General McCollum called on the company to provide readable warning labels that alert consumers about the health risks posed by these products. These alcoholic energy drinks are promoted and packaged in a way that is highly attractive in both taste and appearance to underage youth, Attorney General McCollum said. If Anheuser-Busch is going to hold itself out as a partner in the fight against underage drinking, the company must stop marketing the youthful appeal of these drinks...

While it seems Cocaine has been recalled you can still find it easily at least for now. My guess is that it will only be a few more weeks before you can't find this in stores. Really the article is trying to make a big deal that you can still find it, but screw the scare tactic media, nothing is wrong with the drink. Students ride a wave of caffeine to study hall

It is funny to me that ever time finals at colleges come around we see articles about students using energy drinks to stay up studying. Really I don't know why I find this funny or surprising, it makes sense. It is completely true, almost everyone I knew in college slept less and drank way more caffeine while studying for finals. In fact when I started always having energy drinks people always came and got some from me when finals were coming up so they would be ready. Just this week a college friend of mine grabbed a bunch of energy drinks so she could study for her finals. So yes it is true, and here is an article about college kids riding the energy drinks all the way through finals...

Americans young and old crave high-octane fuel, and doctors are worried

Some doctors are getting worried about the total amount of caffeine we are beginning to drink. I think that is an interesting and worthwhile concern to have. I mean I don't worry about most energy drinks because they are only a bit stronger than coffee, but when you start drinking multiple drinks a day or coffee and energy drinks the total caffeine count can add up quickly it would probably be a good think to start to study a little more.

From the article:
Hawk may sound like an anomaly, but she isn't. Overworked and sleep-deprived Americans young and old so crave a buzz these days that even alcoholic drinks come loaded with caffeine, and doctors are getting worried. In the past three years alone, the number of 18-to-24-year-olds who drink coffee daily has doubled, from 16 percent to 31 percent-and some of them go on to pop prescription stimulants such as Adderall or Ritalin for late-night study sessions. Energy drinks like Red Bull and Cocaine, with several times the buzz of a can of Coke, have mushroomed into a $3.5 billion-a-year industry...

Bravo! pours milk into sports drinks

A milk based energy drink? I am just not sure how this will fly. I guess before I say anything I will have to give this a try, but it doesn't strike me as the most natural combo, but I have been wrong before... Once, and only once... hehe

I guess I won't be able to claim that they made another boring knock off because this energy drink if anything is different.

From the article:
A range of milk-based sports and energy drinks will be launched by US fortified beverage specialist, Bravo!, expanding the dairy sector into traditional soft drink territory...

Cocaine Energy Drink Marketed Illegally

Apparently marketing Cocaine as, "The Legal Alternative" to the illegal drug. Has gotten the company in even more trouble. Seriously this company put out a bad tasting drink, but has gotten thousands of articles written up because of it's stupid name. I am amazed that this many people think some how a name is corrupting the children. If your kids are dumb enough to drink this because they think it is a drug, you need to be more involved with you kids. So stop blaming shady marketing for your problems... Anyways it seems like the company will get sued out of existence, but now how will kids use a legal alternative, they will just have to use the real cocaine.

From the article:
A Las Vegas company marketed an energy drink called "Cocaine". It contains no actual cocaine, but is being marketed as "The Legal Alternative" to the illegal drug, according to its Web site. Its logo appears to be spelled out in a white powder that resembles the drug...

Half time energy drink is set to launch. I don't know much about the drink at all, but I am always welcoming a new drink to the market. Mixing Stimulants And Depressants Is A Growing Trend In Energy Drinks

Wow did you hear that people don't even know they are putting alcohol in some energy drinks? No shit really it doesn't say it right on the can? Of course it does it would be illegal if it didn't... Wow so your saying kids under age can buy them? off course not they are kept in the liquor section and you have to be 21 to buy them... Then what in the hell are you talking about these are alcoholic drinks and it is very clear that they are... Another waste of space scare story from people that can't read, but apparently have learned how to write, seriously grow up folks and take some responsibility for your lives, and writing...

From the article:
The Utah County Division of Substance Abuse, as part of the Utah County Health Department, is concerned with a similar trend that is happening in the beverage industry. Energy drinks are becoming increasingly more prevalent, with new flavors, types and products entering our stores every day.
"Most people aren't even aware that some energy drink manufacturers are adding alcohol to their beverages," said Pat Bird, Utah County Division of Substance Abuse prevention coordinator. "They can be extremely hard to identify, using such phrases as 'malt beverage' and 'A-L-C by weight' to indicate they contain alcohol."...

Energy Coffee Surfaces at 7-Eleven

Well I guess I can't say I am surprised. We knew coffee was going to start to worry that the caffeine addicts would get their fix another way. So coffee is starting to try to compete with energy drinks, adding higher levels of caffeine and other energy drink ingredients into the mix. I think it is a good thing because some people really like their coffee, but just want a bigger boost than it normally offers. So cheers to energy drink coffee.

Caffeine's long-term effects on the body are...

A well written article about Caffeine as a drug, it has some good points, but while pointing out some of the bad things linked to caffeine, and very mildly linked... The article doesn't point out many of the good things link to caffeine, like it reduces liver damage. It doesn't have a ton of research to back that up (there are studies reporting this finding), but neither do the negative things he tries to point out. I think that being careful with what and how much of something we put in our bodies is a good point, but i feel this was a bit of a scare article with out enough references to back it up. If a bunch of research articles were cited, I might find this more interesting, but it is worth a look.

blaming Alcoholic and Energy Drinks?

Problems like these can be the problem that leads to energy drinks getting a bad name. Some guy downs a bunch of redbull and vodka and thinks he is sober and drives a bunch of buddies around. Are energy drinks to blame? No, even alcohol isn't to blame it is stupid irresponsible people. People need to be punished for their actions and responcible for their own actions. Luckily this person did take responsibility for their actions. She blamed herself, they didn't blame energy drinks, they didn't blame alcohol, they said they made a bad decision. Well good for you

Cheers? Alcohol added to some energy drinks

This is another scare tactic article warning about alcoholic energy drinks. Acting like since teens like energy drinks these new alcohols are targeting teens, there is one big problem with that theory. Everyone one of these energy drinks isn't found with all the other drinks they are in the liquor section or only in liquor stores. They clearly and very largely state the amount of alcohol they have, and can only be purchased if your 21. Come on let personal responsibility take care of some things. Kids have been and will drink under age and this is not the cause or solution to the problem, in fact it is an entirely different issue. Yeah listen, "drinks getting into the hands of minors be it accidental or intentional." none of these drinks are ending up in a minors hands on accident with the kid honestly not knowing or believing their is alcohol in the drink. Stop pissing me off and scaring worried parents.

Although energy drinks can give a boost, some say they cause harm...

Another story about how high school kids shouldn't drink energy drinks because they MAY harm people. If everyone is so worried about this stuff, why do we not do some actual research on the effects of all the drugs, herbs, and other ingredients, oh big pharma can't patent all this stuff so their is no money for the research, we will just test it on ourselves and see if a large number of us all get cancer 20 years from now... Sounds good... People have been drinking sugar and caffeine for hundreds of years don't worry so much about it media, its cool.

From the article:

Healthy Living - Not with Sodas and Energy Drinks

So another writer has found that fear of energy drinks sells news papers. I am terrified of sugar and caffeine even though people have been drinking them for years. Lets try to scare the whole world while telling them how healthy and wonderful I am... blah blah blah... Don't abuse it and you will be fine, now go write something more interesting and call me when your buzz cools off. Sugar and caffeine are not and never has been the cause of all human suffering so settle down. (That said don't abuse it Americans over consume about ever possibly item we have found digestible.)

From the article:
Do not count sodas and energy drinks as part of your daily water intake. They are full of many dangers which we are just beginning to recognize. Many districts are working to get them out of our schools. Since 1978 the consumption of soft drinks has tripled for boys and doubled for girls. The National Soft Drink Association says that the average consumption of soft drinks is now 600 12-ounce servings per person per year. The known health risks of soft drinks include: obesity, diabetes, tooth decay, osteoporosis, bone fractures, nutritional deficiencies, and heart disease. The latest villain on the beverage scene is the energy drink. They are so popular with young people that they have their own fan mail on My Space pages. Energy drinks combine the dangers of both sugar and large quantities of caffeine. ...

Energy Drinks and Caffeine

The article talks about energy drinks and the effects of caffeine in general. Basically it just says it is ok in moderation and that people shouldn't be drinking more than 300mg of caffeine daily which is how much caffeine is in a single can of some of the strongest energy drinks. Other drinks like redbull have about 100mg of caffeine. Anyways it tried to not get to biased about anything and seems to be short and sweet.

From the article:
Energy drinks like Arizona Green Tea Energy, Red Bull Energy and SoBe Adrenaline Rush say they'll get you going, improve your concentration and increase your endurance. "These drinks contain caffeine or the caffeine-containing herb Guarana. Guayaki Announces New Organic Yerba Mate...

More stuff about Yerba Mate, I am telling you we are going to start to see Yerba Mate more and more in the energy drink market. It is a very smooth no jitter kind of buzz that once people get a taste of they might just want to kick some of the caffeine to the curb while drinking more of this south American staple, down there it is like coffee. Anyways, I am a pretty big fan of the Yerba Mate stuff and I like Guayaki even though I doubt I could ever pronounce their name...

From the article:
Of the six most common caffeine beverage stimulants (yerba mate, coffee, tea, cola, cacao and guarana), yerba mate is the only one balanced by powerful nutrition and a healthy natural blend of stimulants. Organic Yerba Mate Fusions contain caffeine comparable to coffee and energy drinks; however, the caffeine is balanced by mate's content of theobromine - the euphoriant in chocolate, another stimulant named theophylline, and pantothenic acid - which prevents over-stimulation of the nervous system. Yerba mate is also a rich source of magnesium, which has been proven to ease anxiety. Many caffeine-sensitive people that drink mate don't experience the jitters, stomach discomfort and headaches that are common complaints among drinkers of coffee and energy drinks...

Taut energy drink claims to be 'clean'

A clean energy drink, free from extra salts, preservatives, and sweeteners? Do people worry about that stuff when they are drinking sodas? I guess so because the diet soda market is screaming a long. Many people slamming the no carb and diet energy drinks. So I haven't given it a shot yet, but I will give it a try.

From the article:
You might think that all energy drinks are the same, but they apparently aren’t. Many of these drinks you purchase on store shelves often contain some traces of salt which you already get too much of in your everyday diet. In addition, most energy drink manufacturers have even thrown in artificial sweeteners, flavoring, colors, and preservatives, all in an effort to give you a more palatable drink at the expense of your health. Taut is a new sports drink that claims to be truly “clean” from all such extras mentioned above as it was specifically engineered to provide your body with all the necessary replenishment...

Well another big shout out to Denver... I love this city. Anyways is finally making its way to Denver, I had heard of his energy drink for awhile, but I have yet to get my hands on it. Potent potions deliver steep caffeine

Yeah they probably don't delivery a ton more than a cup of coffee but they sure are in the news a lot more. I guess my point is the normal basic energy drinks are as healthy as coffee, but some of the other stuff is getting a bit extreme, and causing some problems. As for the issues with Alcohol come on people have been drinking rum and coke for years... It is fine in moderation like everything else people get sick and die just from to much alcohol of course it will be bad if you mix a bunch of alcohol with way to much caffeine in a single evening. I don't really feel like that part is news...

From the article:
But it's an open question whether this or any other "high-performance" beverage actually conveys much more benefit than, say, a cup of coffee and a banana or peanut-butter sandwich. As the small type on virtually every brand reads, "These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Adminstration."
Moreover, another aspect of energy drinks - their widespread use as a mixer in cocktails, most commonly Red Bull and vodka - is raising fears of an increase in alcohol abuse and drunken driving. ...

Survey Finds Women Need More Sleep

Well this might not be the most energy drink focused article, but I like how we blame the caffeine, alcohol, and energy drinks, but not the person. If you need more sleep start getting it. There's a lot of caffeine we all take in because we want to be alert, awake during the day, and then at the end of the day it comes back," he said. "The other is alcohol. People have a drink with dinner or a couple of drinks and some wine. Alcohol may make you sleepy and you fall asleep but then you wake up because the alcohol is gone and now you're up in the middle of the night."...

Caffeine without side effects?

Take this with a grain of salt but a company has announced that their energy drink has none of the side effects associated with heavy caffeine use. I find this a dubious claim, but hey I guess it is worth looking into. I also would take it with a grain of salt because this is a press release which the company wrote itself. Either way it is a pretty big and interesting claim. If you could get rid of the "jitters" there would be less reason for people to start using / switching to things like Yerba Mate... So I guess you heard it here first

From the article:
Anheuser-Busch Cos. is rolling out a new version of its 180 energy drink — this time, with hints of Goji berry, a Tibetan fruit that AB bills as an
