I Snowboard!

Ok, not really. Yesterday was the third time I've ever strapped a snowboard to my feet and attempted to glide down a mountain. It turns out beginners do more tumbling and crying than gliding. Last weekend Dominic and I went up and I thought I was going to swear off snowboarding. I couldn't figure it out to save my life. But Dominic is a good coach and with his encouraging words I decided to keep trying. (Actually he had already committed me to a season of snowboarding.) There I was again strapped to that mean little snowboard, facing the scary mountain. To my surprise it turned out beautifully, thanks to my very patient coach. It started out bad but by the end I was starting to get along with the mountain. And for the few moments I wasn't falling I was actually enjoying it. I might have cracked a smile and I'm pretty sure I got a piece of my pride back. I can't wait to go back and show that mountain i'm not afraid, or at the very least make it down without crying.

Nicole that is good your progressing.. i know it is kinda lame but alot of people when they start getting ok can benifiet (cant spell) alot from a group lesson so they can have someone that is really good point out the bad things your doing before you get way to used to the bad habits.

Also i will be skiing in vail friday and saturday after thanksgiving. Yippie...

Dan, it's been my experience that in a group lesson the instuctor has no time to spend with the individual students and pretty much just goes down the mountain and says, "Ok, now watch me and do it like this." And I'm not trying to toot my own horn here but I believe that I'm really good and will point out exactly what Nicole is doing wrong long before a stranger would. Although, I will give you that Nicole may listen to the advice of a stranger before the advice of her fiance but I'll beat it into her until she listens.

The group less definately vary, but the small groups that go half a day they spend some one on one with each person. Also you are a good snowboarder and such, but I just think after teaching a bunch of people they learn tricks to say things and explain them in ways that just work a little better. That being said it isn't night and day, it just seemed she was fighting wether she was enjoying the boarding and not and sometimes a quick short lesson can get you to the fun parts a little faster. I am a good skier, but I know I am not very good at teaching it, Mark is a good skier and good at teaching... Some people are good at both. She does seem to think you have been a good coach though. Anyways I will be pumped to get up and go ski with you some time this year.
