oral hygiene for electronics

Let this be a lesson to everyone else - never try to bring mouthwash on your travels, especially if the travels include a change in air pressure. Mouthwash will somehow leak from its container, and even through any ziplock bags you have put around it - and its a sticky mess to clean up.

Another important lesson - never keep anything that could leak in the same bag with your laptop. . . .

The joys of driving and being driven

Driving to Colorado is always fun. Really. For about the first 12 hours, it's a blast. My spirits were high, the road was ahead of me. But the last 3 or so hours I was completely braindead and just wanted to get somewhere. So of course, in my desperation, I managed to get lost, making what should have been the last hour into the last hour and forty-five minutes. Furthermore, driving into CO was a little scary, considering it looks like I was driving into the birthplace of the apocalypse. Big scary clouds, rain so hard I could barely see, and terrifying red lightning. Nothing says "Welcome to Colorado" like the threat of armageddon.

It appears that the state of Kansas has an economy almost entirely built on Dairy Queens. I saw more DQs in the western half of the state then I've seen anywhere else. Maybe it just seemed like a lot because there was nothing else at all in that part of the country. Kansas doesn't end, and I'm angry at it as a result. As I was leaving Kansas, I meant to take a picture, but I failed because I was too busy flicking off the "Now Leaving Kansas, Please Come Again" sign.

In other news, I'm really glad Jesse only turns 21 once. My wallet can't handle this 21 life style. As soon as I got into Ft. Collins, we headed out to some bars. It was fun, and drinks were relatively cheap, so everybody won. Then there was last night - we went out to one restaurant and three bars, and the drinks were not inexpensive. Don't they know that I need to conserve funds, yet I also need to party with my friends? Can't I get someone to sponsor my partying? I would gladly wear a Pepsi shirt or something all night if they would pay for my meals and drinks.

And of course, no 21st birthday party would be complete without the overly expensive, spontaneous limo ride home. Those last five dollars looked so lonely sitting alone in my wallet, like puppies at the pound - I just knew I had to give them a good home, which apparently was the wallet of the limo driver. To be fair, the limo was crazy cool, and it was fun to ride around. I wish more people could have seen us - what fun is a limo ride if you can't mock others outside the limo? We took a bunch of pictures in it, which I'll put up when I get them from Danny, who was brave enough to bring his camera to the bars.

Happy birthday, Jesse . . .

go go go

go to summerland
just a name on a map
sounds like heaven to me"

Endless circles

So let's consider this my first real post, since the last two weren't really informative or interesting. It's 3 days before I head out, and I'm starting to get cold feet about the whole thing, especially the blog. I'm not much of a writer, or patient, or especially clever. I am not, however, afraid to discuss the blogging process within the blog itself, so that's gotta count for something.

Oh yeah, and I also hate being watched and tend to be self conscious with anything remotely artistic. This blog and me are a match made in blog heaven.

Apparently, I need more content

So this site uses Moveable Type, which, so far, seems really really cool. However, the page looks really funky with just one entry, some of the table stuff goes nutso. So this post is pretty much purely to add some rando content and see if the page looks better as a result. What a waste of your precious time . . .

in the beginning . . .

In the beginning, I created a weblog to document my roadtrip.
